Euro Fireplaces FAQs
We do our best to address all your questions. Please let us know if you have any suggested questions that may not be covered here and we will gladly add it to our list.
Where are your fireplaces made?
Why are your prices so reasonable?
What is the “efficiency” rating of a fireplace?
This is how much of the energy contained in a fuel the fireplace can deliver to the room. The average efficiency of an open fire is 25 – 30 %. Our fireplaces have an efficiency rating of 75 – 80 %, meaning you will get three times as much heat as you would from burning the same fuel on an open fire.
What is the kW output?
This is a measure of heat the fireplace can efficiently deliver. The Kw and efficiency ratings are determined by an independent body as part of the European certification.
Do you carry spares?
Yes. We stock spare parts such as handles, air sliders, rope seal, glass, fire-bricks, grates etc.
Is it safe to have glass in the doors?
Yes. Our fireplaces use German-made, ceramic SCHOTT glass. It is highly specialised, durable and capable of withstanding 850°C.
Does the price of fireplaces include flues or installation?
How much will the flue/chimney cost?
This depends on whether you are installing the flue internally (directly through the ceiling and roof), or externally (out through the wall and then up the outside wall). Other factors such as single or double storey installation, roof type, etc., will determine cost. View basic costs here
Is it possible to buy cheaper flues?
Flue costs can be reduced by using thinner gauge 0.4 mm pipe or lower grade 430 stainless steel. These are fine, but please bear this in mind if trying to compare like-for-like prices. We do not recommend using galvanised flue pipes.
What type of wood should be used?
- Use only very dry wood logs. Preferably hardwood.
- Heat output and lifespan of the fireplace depend on dry wood.
- Wood logs stored in the open under cover, reach a humidity level of 10-15% after 2 years, when they are most suitable for combustion.
- Only use dry, seasoned wood from a reputable supplier.
- Newly cut wood has little calorific value, high humidity and burns poorly, emitting a lot of flue gases.
- High moisture condensate and tar content in the flue gases promote corrosion and shorten the life of the fireplace and chimney.
- When using unseasoned wood, the heat output of the appliance falls as much as 50%.
- It is not recommended to use Pine because of its high resin content.
- Do not use liquid fuels or anthracite.
- View our moisture meter that allows you to quickly and easily determine the percentage of moisture in your wood.
How much wood should the fireplace burn per hour?
This depends on the specific fireplace you have installed. The wood type, air vent settings and other factors will also make a difference. Wood consumption varies from 1kg to 5kg per hour. Larger fireplaces will use more wood.
